Some things you need to know….
We are officially the East/Central Texas United Way, formerly Palestine United Way. United Way America added three zip codes to our area, and the name was changed to reflect the addition of Freestone, Leon and Limestone Counties. Currently, though, all of our 15 partner agencies primarily serve Anderson County.
Donors can choose any or all of the listed partner agencies to receive the donation or….
They can choose to name any qualified 501 (c) (3) non-profit to receive the donation.
One time contributions are welcome.
Some recent misconceptions about who we serve….
United Way (locally nor nationally) DOES NOT contribute to Planned Parenthood. Some local United Way agencies do but it not a national policy.
99% of every dollar collected locally stays here. We pay a 1% annual affiliation fee United Way America, the remainder stays in the local community. We have one paid employee and our office is provided free of charge by Palestine Regional Rehabilitation Hospital. There are no other paid employees or officials.
Our newest partner, Women’s Health Connection, DOES NOT PROVIDE ABORTIONS. It is a low or no cost clinic for women and children. Its roots come from the former free weekly clinic offered by Dr. Gary Parkhurst before he left Palestine. There is one doctor who gives one half day of time each week and a nurse practitioner who sees patients each Monday until everyone has been seen (and sometimes that is after midnight).
