We’re not just Palestine!
The East/Central Texas United Way (formerly Palestine United Way) serves Anderson, Freestone, Leon and Limestone Counties. Don’t be confused by the name, it’s a reflection of who we are (but you can still find us listed as Palestine United Way in many places).
We are 15 Partner Agencies that touched the lives of more than 20,000 people in 2008.
In 2010 our partners will provide:
Ø Training and support for daycare workers and at-risk parents (Champions for Children)
Ø Help in getting children out of abusive environments (CASA of Trinity Valley)
Ø Leadership training for hundreds of boys and girls (Boy Scouts and Girl Scouts)
Ø Emergency shelter and counseling to those escaping abusive homes (Crisis Center)
Ø Shelter and clothing for the homeless (Sanctuary House)
Ø A helping hand to those displaced from their homes by disaster (Red Cross)
Ø Open doors to a more productive life with enhanced reading and language skills (Literacy Council)
Ø Jobs and self-dignity to those who were thought to be incapable of working (Sheltered Workshop)
Ø Thousands of meals and companionship to seniors and homebound (Meals on Wheels)
Ø Vital medical services for hundreds of women and children at little or no cost (Women’s Health Connection)
Ø Help for dozens of individuals in taking the first step to subduing alcohol or drug dependency (East Texas Council on Alcoholism and Drug Abuse)
Ø Summer enrichment activities for at-risk children and adolescents (ACCESS)
Ø Food, clothing and assistance for those in need and a safe nurturing after school environment (Henry-Smith Families, Multi-Cultural Education Center)
Ø Scholarship funds for at-risk children to attend summer camp and for after school childcare (YMCA)
